CHEF GREG POWER
Chef Greg Power is the proud owner of Rutherford, New Jersey’s renowned Matisse 167, the only four-star restaurant in all of Bergen County. He assumed ownership in June 2024 from its founder, Peter Loria, promising to keep Chef Peter’s 37-year legacy alive by ensuring the restaurant’s legendary tasting menu is as fresh, artistic, inventive, and delicious as ever.
Chef Greg is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Chicago. He brings to Matisse 167 more than fifteen years of experience earned working alongside several of the country’s most renowned celebrity chefs at some of the most celebrated restaurants in New York City including David Burke at David Burke Prime and Geoffrey Zakarian at The National. He further honed his culinary prowess at Manhattan’s The Capital Grille, Harry’s Café and Steakhouse and Pier A Harbor House. He got his start at Edward’s Steakhouse in Jersey City, and once stole the show as a contestant on the reality TV show, “Chopped.”
Chef Greg is a well-known, gregarious Rutherford resident who can often be seen heading to the restaurant after walking his young daughter, Madison, to school. Greg and his wife, Lorena, a long-time Fashion Designer for Macy’s who now designs for Quiksilver in Manhattan, moved to Rutherford in 2021.
Growing up in a military family and having lived all over the world, it was important to Greg that he put down roots in Rutherford and owning Matisse 167 is an integral part of that. “Now here we are, and I have my hands on every dish that goes out of this kitchen. I am working to keep Chef Peter’s legacy intact as well as build my own.”
“This is not just about me,” says Greg, “This is for my family and their future, too.” “I’ve always told my wife that if I could pay myself to cook, that’s what I would do,” Power said. “There is no better feeling in the world right now.”
