Hello, this is Chef Peter at Matisse, sitting in my garden today enjoying this beautiful afternoon. It’s a sunny Sunday, just getting ready for service, and I want to share with you about our Cafe Matisse name and why I think we should just be called Matisse now. Years ago, when we came up with the name for Cafe Matisse, we thought, in a sense, that it was a good name because it was French. The technique is French. However, my food style really is not, it leans more toward New American.

So, we’re going drop the word “Café”. I think it caused some confusion. For instance, some people think we’re a coffee shop, which we are not. People like to call me fine dining. However, I do see my menu as very accessible and somewhat casual. I take simple things and make them interesting with flavors and textures. And so therefore, I feel it’s time, at this point in my career, that we change the restaurant name to simply “Matisse”.

We will now be known on our website as Matisse. We’ll be known on our building as Matisse. We’ll be known on anything that we project to the press as Matisse. Please don’t think we are a different restaurant. It’s still me. I’ve been here for thirty-seven years cooking dinners for you, and will continue to do so, God willing, now at the restaurant named Matisse.

Love you guys. See you soon. Chef Peter at Matisse.
